On architecture tour
Last autumn 2021, we organized an architecture program lasting several days for students and professors at ETH Zurich.
The program was carefully selected and rich in highlights. Of these, we would like to highlight two visits in particular below:
The group visited a very special house immediately after arriving in Barcelona, the house La Ricarda, an iconic showpiece of rational Catalan residential architecture. The daughter of the builders, Ricardo Gomis and Ines Bertrand, welcomed us personally and gave us first-hand stories and explanations of the house and its architecture. The architect of the house, Jordi Roig, was also present and answered questions from the participants. The tours led through the garden and the house, where we could admire the furniture designed by the architect. At the end of the tour, the visitors even had the opportunity to climb onto the vaulted roof. An unforgettable experience!
Another highlight was the visit to the Fundación Miralles, the architectural studio of Benedetta Tagliabue. Together with her partner Enric Miralles they renovated one of the famous neighborhood markets and used for this project ceramic tiles from the Catalan factory Ceràmica Cumella collaborated for generations with architects applying ceramic as a building material. The tour was led by a selected architect who was involved in the development and construction of the works. There was much discussion, questioning, and explanation. The visit went through the EMBT Miralles Tagliabue studio and the Fundació Enric Miralles. An unforgettable experience to see how they work and to see previously unpublished material by the architects.
