Barcelona’s Arts Autumn 2024
Just a few days until Manifesta 15 Barcelona Metropolitana opens! The 15th edition of MANIFESTA is centered around three key themes: Balancing Conflicts, Cure and Care, and Imagining Futures and offers a wide range of exhibitions, interactive artworks, installations, and performances in Barcelona but also in neighboring towns and cities — an opportunity to go beyond the city center for once.
You can buy a ticket for €15, which is valid from September 8 to November 24, 2024, allowing unlimited entry during this period! To plan your visit effectively, buy a ticket, sign up for your must-see events, and note that the full biennial program will be published on September 5th, 2024.
Here’s what we particularly recommend visiting in terms of architecture:
— Tres Chimeneas de Sant Adrià de Besòs. A stunning landmark of Barcelona's coastal landscape. For years, it stood empty and abandoned. Now, this site will be one of the main venues for Manifesta 15. We are curious to see it!
— Casa Gomis. Our personal highlight and an architectural jewel, a milestone of Catalan rationalism and designed by Antoni Bonet Castellana 1953 - 1963. Normally, we offer an architecture tour to Casa Gomis/La Ricarda, but from September to November 2024, it will be in the hands of Manifesta, and you can visit it with a Manifesta ticket.
We shouldn’t mention this — it’s bad for our business. But if you’ve read this far, you deserve to know.
— Editorial Gustavo Gili. A remarkable example of Catalan architecture from the 1950s. The former headquarters of the Gustavo Gili publishing house, was designed by Joaquim Gili + Francesc Bassó, members of Grup R, and is located in a courtyard of a block of houses in the Eixample district of Barcelona.
48H Open House Barcelona is an architecture festival that opens a wide array of buildings and architectural landmarks across Barcelona to the public for one weekend!
You can explore a variety of buildings — from historic landmarks to modern masterpieces, private homes, and cultural institutions — all free of charge. With so many options, you'll be spoilt for choice! However, keep in mind that some buildings require registration or have limited entry. So save the date and stay tunned for more information. Shortly a map will be published will all the venues in Barcelona.
What makes the experience truly unique is that the tours are often led by architects, designers, or even the building owners themselves. Even as professionals, we always find new insights. Last year, for example, Sandy and I visited the Escola Massana and the Escola Mar Bella and enjoyed being participants for once.
To be honest, I’ve never attended, but I always wish I could. It's a true mecca for creative minds and brands. This year's edition, with the slogan Design for Human Future, focuses on water and offers a wide range of activities related to design, creativity, and innovation. A place for inspiration and networking, with exhibitions, workshops, collaborations between designers, brands and design schools.
I recommend checking out the Spanish site, as it has more information.
And if I ever go, I'll add to this blog post... promise.
